DE KLIMAATALMANAK

The Optimist magazine is the first official Founding Partner of The Carbon Almanac. The almanac is the tangible result of a new international movement that wants to stop climate change.

At the initiative of the American author Seth Godin, a group of more than three hundred writers, artists and scientists from more than forty countries has united within the Carbon Almanac Network. Last year they worked on a climate almanac, which will be published on June 21. A Dutch version will also be published on the same day: ‘De klimaatalmanak’.

Under the motto ‘It’s not too late yet’, the network uses the almanac to share knowledge about climate change with a wide audience. There are many misunderstandings about the causes, consequences and solutions surrounding climate change, and sharing information can help. The content is not written by environmental scientists, but by ordinary concerned people who, with the help of experienced fact checkers, have tried to describe as much important information as possible. One of the co-authors is Michel Porro, a well-known Dutch photographer whose work has frequently appeared in The Optimist.

The Optimist publisher thinks it is a unique project and has therefore become a Founding Partner of ‘De Klimaatalmanak’. We will actively distribute at least 250 copies of the book. Also, we will share in our magazine and during events the message of the almanac and the network with our readers and partners.

The Optimist: Founding Partner van De klimaatalmanak

Uitgeverij The Optimist is de eerste officiële Founding Partner van De klimaatalmanak. De almanak is het tastbare resultaat van een nieuwe internationale beweging die klimaatverandering een halt wil toeroepen.

Op initiatief van de Amerikaanse schrijver Seth Godin heeft een groep van meer dan driehonderd schrijvers, kunstenaars en wetenschappers uit meer dan veertig landen zich verenigd binnen het Carbon Almanac Network. Het afgelopen jaar hebben zij gewerkt aan een klimaatalmanak, die op 21 juni verschijnt. Op dezelfde dag verschijnt ook een Nederlandstalige versie: De klimaatalmanak.

Onder het motto ‘Het is nog niet te laat’ probeert het netwerk met de almanak de kennis over klimaatverandering bij een breed publiek te delen. Er zijn veel misverstanden over de oorzaken, gevolgen en oplossingen rond klimaatverandering, en het delen van informatie kan helpen. De teksten zijn niet geschreven door milieu wetenschappers, maar door gewone bezorgde mensen die met de hulp van ervaren fact checkers geprobeerd hebben om zo veel mogelijk belangrijke en interessante informatie te beschrijven. Een van de co-auteurs is Michel Porro, een bekende Nederlandse fotograaf waarvan ook veel werk in The Optimist is verschenen.

The Optimist vindt het een uniek project en is daarom Founding Partner geworden van De klimaatalmanak. We gaan actief minstens 250 exemplaren van het boek verspreiden. Bovendien zullen wij in ons magazine en tijdens evenementen de boodschap van de almanak en het netwerk delen met onze lezers en partners.
